Join Skyla from Living Culture to create an artwork that can be entered into the Ellen José Student Reconciliation Awards! https://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/EJSRA2025

Skyla is a Gunditjmara Kirrae Wurrung-Bundjalung women, who was born and raised on Boonwurrung/ Bunurong land. She works with Living Culture, whose mission is to educate people about the importance of keeping First Nations' culture alive.

The Ellen José Student Reconciliation Awards honour the life of Torres Strait Elder Ellen José (1951 - 2017). Ellen was a pioneer in Australia's urban Indigenous art movement and a radical activist and social justice campaigner. Her contribution to the arts and Bayside was outstanding and inspirational in raising awareness of reconciliation.

Established in 2018, the Ellen José Student Reconciliation Awards are aimed at Bayside primary and secondary school students, bringing awareness of reconciliation to our young people, who are the future of Australia, through art and writing.

Notes & Requirements

All materials will be provided. Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting paint on. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult who remains in the library for the duration of the program. Please note that all Autumn School Holiday Program events open for bookings on 11 March at 10am. This is to ensure people without digital access have an opportunity to book. These events are in high demand, so if you are no longer able to attend, please cancel the ticket online or with library staff.
