Event Description

Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May - 3 June and this year's theme is "Be a voice for generations".

Dr. Tony Birch is an acclaimed First Nations author of award-winning books, including novels "The White Girl", "Ghost River" and "Blood", as well as poetry books and short story collections. Tony is also a climate justice and Indigenous rights activist, as well as an avid footy fan, so giving up his Saturday afternoon to run this workshop is something we really appreciate!

Studying as a mature-age student at the University of Melbourne, Tony holds a Masters degree in Creative Writing, and, a PhD in History, which won the university's Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in 2013.

Most recently his short story collection "Dark as Last Night" won the New South Wales Premier's Award Christina Stead Prize for fiction, the Queensland Literary Award Steele Rudd prize and was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's literary prize. He has previously been awarded the Patrick White Literary Award for his contribution to Australian literature. Tony was appointed as the third Boisbouvier Chair in Australian Literature at the University of Melbourne, following Richard Flanagan and Alexis Wright.
