The story of a children’s author – where to start, what to know and how to keep going – tips for those starting out with Andrea Rowe

Event Description

Andrea Rowe is a children’s author, YA writer and short story writer with a jam-packed freelance writing career who won the 2022 CBCA Picture Book of the Year – Early Reads. Andrea writes books for children, young adults and grown-ups too, combining her nostalgic celebration of culture and the environment in our everyday lives with the questions and reflections that draw us together. Her writing absorbs the themes and issues encouraging collective discussions and conversations. Andrea believes in the power of stories and reading out loud and in secret. Several of her short stories, magazine features and micro fictions have been published and longlisted in literary magazines and Australian awards.

As an Australian literature advocate, Andrea is the Founding President of the Peninsula Writers’ Club and co-host of the Words After Dark author interviews in Sorrento. She is a Writers Victoria Writeability graduate exploring her own voice living with an unseen disability.
Andrea was announced the 2020 winner of the Hal Porter Short Story Award. She is committed to writing diverse Australian stories and sharing her knowledge with aspiring writers.
