Bayside Libraries are proud to present an opportunity for you to hear from an incredible panel of authors who are working to change the story to prevent violence against women. Come to listen and learn what action we can take as a community and to be part of this crucial conversation.

Our panel includes:

Jane Gilmore is an author, award-winning journalist, feminist, and consent educator. Jane has been researching and writing about the causes and effects of violence and poverty for over a decade and is now also delivering consent and respectful relationships education in Australian schools. Jane's books are "Fixed It", "Teaching Consent" and her latest "Fairy Tale Princesses Will Kill Your Children" is due for release on 26 October.

After exiting an abusive relationship, Ilsa Evans turned to study, soon developing an interest in an interest in media representations of violence against women and the long-term effects of family violence. This led to a doctorate and a career in academia. Nowadays, she coordinates a postgraduate certificate in family violence at Chisholm Institute. She also sits on the board of a local refuge organisation, Kara Family Service. In her spare time, Ilsa writes fiction. Her sixteenth book, "Family Baggage", was published by Harper Collins in March this year.

Kerryn Mayne is the author of the bestselling "Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder" with her second novel "Joy Moody is Out of Time" due out in February 2024. Kerryn's debut novel came about when she shifted focus from writing about the crime to writing about the people affected by crime. Focusing on survivors, witnesses and the front-seat passengers of various horrific things that happen showcased her understanding of the issues and made her debut one filled with strength and empathy. When Kerryn is not writing, she works as a police officer.

Katherine Kovacic has written short stories, true crime and crime fiction. A former veterinarian with a PhD in Art History, Katherine brings her intelligence, insight and incredible research skills to the topic in her 2021 true crime book, "The Schoolgirl Strangler". Her latest book, "Seven Sisters" was published this year and also explores the theme of gender-based violence and what justice looks like.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign that runs every year from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
