16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of violence, particularly on women.
Awareness raising is the first step in the overall task of addressing violence against women and girls, so come to this event to learn from Jane Gilmore, author, journalist, feminist, and consent educator. Jane has been researching and writing about the causes and effects of violence and poverty for over a decade and is now also delivering consent and respectful relationships education in Australian schools. Jane is an eloquent and inspiring presenter and her books ("Fixed It", "Teaching Consent" and "Fairy Tale Princesses Will Kill Your Children") are powerful calls to action.
The campaign starts 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and concludes 10 December (Human Rights Day). These dates symbolically link violence against women with human rights issues.
